Listen to Big Bang’s ‘farewell’ song

The members of the K-pop boyband will enlist in the military for two years, but “Flower Road” makes it clear that they ain't quitting yet.

Dry those tears, Big Bang fans. The band may be taking a two-year hiatus to fulfill their military duties, but they’re not going away in silence. They’ve dropped a farewell track, “Flower Road,” to mark their departure from the scene, and judging by its lyrics, it’s clear their absence will only be temporary.

“Flower Road” is an upbeat, feel-good number whose title references a Korean term about new beginnings. On it, the quintet wax lyrical about their special relationship with their fans.

“This is not the end of us / I hope we’ll meet again when the flowers are blooming,” croons G-Dragon, adding a bittersweet note to an otherwise celebratory tune. And when Daesung and Taeyang belt out, “I’ll scatter flowers on the road you’ll walk on / But if you ever miss me, please come back,” you’ll feel the tears well up.

While G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung have already enlisted, Seungri has yet to follow suit. “Daesung enlisted today, and I am the last one remaining,” Seungri wrote in an Instagram post yesterday. “Once I have completed my planned schedule this year, I will enlist as well to minimize Big Bang’s hiatus.”
