Listen to BENEE’s quirky new song, “Snail”

A summery follow-up to “Night Garden.”

New Zealand pop star BENEE has released a new song “Snail,” which arrived alongside a whimsical animated lyric video.

“Snail” is a stark contrast to the Kiwi’s moody Kenny Beats-produced single, “Night Garden” featuring Bakar, which was released last month. Her new song radiates summery pop fun, driven by bright synths and rhythmic melodies, and aligns closely with quirky pop ditties from Kero Kero Bonito and Hannah Diamond. And for those who are wondering, yes, “Snail” is really a song about snails.

“When we were in lockdown, I was fascinated by snails,” BENEE shared in a statement. “There wasn’t really a lot to be doing, so I would spend a lot of time outside looking at snails and would think about how they’re doing their own little thing and they’re all free. I just played around with the idea of being kind of like a snail and how I come out in the rain. Being stuck inside because of COVID, it’s kind of my lockdown song.”

BENEE’s new song was co-written by frequent collaborator Josh Fountain, who helped pen the singer’s early hits “Soaked” and “Tough Guy.” Prior to this, BENEE released an acoustic version of her hit single, “Supalonely,” which she performed for her TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
