Listen to BENEE’s new song, “Happen to Me”

Her debut album, ‘Hey u x,’ is out next week.

BENEE has shared a brand-new song, “Happen to Me,” the latest preview of her upcoming debut album Hey u x.

Despite its upbeat melody, “Happen to Me” features a melancholic undertone. It opens with the Kiwi pop artist wishing that she doesn’t “die inside a plane.” “I’d like to die a better way / And if I live to an old age / I would have seen everything change,” she sings.

Later, BENEE confesses that sometimes anxiety just gets the best of her. “I think about these things too much,” she sings. “My mind likes to wind itself up / And I don’t get a lot of sleep / ’Cause what if they happen to me?”

“I’m just very excited to be honest, I’m super keen to get [the album] out,” BENEE told Otago Daily Times. “It’s been brewing. I’ve had to keep it a secret for a while. I think the pressure will hit me when I’ve released it. [But] I try not to overthink whether or not it will do well because that’ll just stress me out.”

Hey u x, out November 13, will include the previously released tracks “Snail” and “Plain” featuring Lily Allen and Flo Milli.
