Lauv wonders if he’ll be “Sad Forever”

“I was dealing with depression and OCD but hadn’t really recognized or got the help I needed,” he admitted.

Lauv gets personal on his new single, “Sad Forever.”

The singer tackles mental health on the mid-tempo song, which was released alongside a live performance video. In the clip, Lauv performs the song for the first time at a concert in Manila, Philippines. “Voices always keeping me up / Telling me that I should give up / Cause lately I’ve been in the backseat to my own life / Trying to take control but I don’t know how to,” he sings.

“I wrote Sad Forever at a time when I was extremely low. I was dealing with depression and OCD but hadn’t really recognized or got the help I needed,” Lauv wrote in the song’s YouTube description. “Although I was [hesitant], I decided to trust my psychiatrist and try a couple of medications that were supposed to help. Weeks later, I realized that medication was far from the enemy that I thought it was. I realized the help that I needed was okay,” he added.

“Sad Forever” is available for streaming on all major platforms, and all proceeds from the song will be donated to mental health organizations working to remove the stigma around mental illnesses.
