Katy Perry is a caring clown in video for “Smile”

The title track of her forthcoming sixth album.

Katy Perry has released a video for “Smile,” the title track of her upcoming sixth studio album.

The video was directed by Mathew Miguel Cullen, who also helmed the visuals for Perry’s “Dark Horse,” “California Gurls” and “Chained to the Rhythm.” In the latest clip, Perry gets sucked into a video game which turns her into a friendly clown, whose main mission is to help others.

“Yeah, I’m thankful / Scratch that, baby, I’m grateful / Gotta say it’s really been a while / But now I got back that smile / I’m so thankful,” Perry sings on the chorus, over an upbeat dance pop production.

“I wrote this song when I was coming through one of the darkest periods of my life,” the pop star said in a statement. “When I listen to it now, it’s a great reminder that I made it through. It’s three minutes of energizing hopefulness.”

Smile is due out August 28. It will include the previously released tracks “Daisies,” “Never Worn White,” “Harleys in Hawaii” and the Charlie Puth-produced single, “Small Talk.”
