Pop-R&B singer JoJo has returned with “Man,” a song that embraces singlehood and self-love.
“Well, damn / I’m gonna need a fuckin’ man / Someone who want me like a fan / I need somebody who can love me like I love me / Love me like I can, yeah,” she sings on the chorus.
Its sensual accompanying music video fleshes out its themes of self-love and female solidarity, boosted by appearances from Tinashe, Ari Lennox, DNCE guitarist JinJoo Lee, Grown-ish’s Francia Raísa and dancer Jojo Gomez.
“Man” is the lead single from JoJo’s upcoming fourth studio album, Good to Know, which is set to drop May 1 via Warner Records. “I called the album Good to Know because of everything I’ve learned in the past few years,” she said in a statement. “Every piece of feedback, criticism (internal or external), whatever it is—it’s all just information. And it’s all good!”
Reflecting further, JoJo added, “I’ve been lucky to have the space to reflect on my own journey up to now, and I hope people can take comfort in the fact that I am not anywhere near perfect, and I will never sugarcoat anything. We are all constantly living and learning, and that’s what makes this life so fun.”
Last year, JoJo collaborated with Jacob Collier and PJ Morton on “It Don’t Matter” and “Say So,” respectively. The latter song won a Grammy for Best R&B Song at this year’s ceremony. Back in 2018, she also released re-recorded versions of her self-titled debut and sophomore record, The High Road.
