Rina Sawayama has shared her latest single “Lucid,” her first new release since her debut album SAWAYAMA.
The BloodPop-produced dance number features the British singer’s dulcet vocals over an infectious beat. “I been lucid dreaming just to see you / I been taking all this medicine, yeah / Are you real or a hallucination / I, I got to know,” she sings on the track.
Sawayama shed light on the song’s creation in a statement: “Me and Lauren Aquilina wrote this together on the floor of my tiny rented living room back in early 2018. BloodPop sent us the beat and the melody flowed out so easily that I remember at one point I started hoovering cos I knew this would be easy to write lol.”
“I’ve kept this song secret for two years so I’m so excited to finally release it to the world!” she added. “2020’s been a tough year so I wanted to finish it off with a dance bop to take us into a more hopeful 2021.”
“Lucid” will appear on the deluxe version of SAWAYAMA, out December 4, alongside previously unreleased tracks “We Out Here” and “Bees & Honey,” acoustic, live and remix versions of album cuts, as well as a cover of The 1975’s “Love it if We Made it.” In October, Sawayama made her US television debut with a dramatic performance of “XS” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
