Hear Rina Sawayama’s adventurous debut album

‘SAWAYAMA’ dropped alongside a video for the track “XS.”

Rina Sawayama has released her debut album, SAWAYAMA.

The record, her first on The 1975’s label Dirty Hit, comes three years after her Rina EP. The British-Japanese artist previewed the LP with a string of singles, including the defiant “STFU!”, the clubby “Comme des Garçons (Like the Boys)” and the moving “Chosen Family.”

SAWAYAMA was accompanied by the release of a video for previously released single “XS,” which mixes 2000s Christina Aguilera-esque pop groove with clangorous nu-metal and a critique of consumer capitalism. In the clip, the musician dances on a television program to hawk a health drink, which ultimately transforms her into a freakish cyborg.
