Lorde has released “Stoned at the Nail Salon,” the second track from her highly-anticipated third album, Solar Power.
The track was co-produced by Jack Antonoff, and features backing vocals from Phoebe Bridgers, Clario, Marlon Williams and James Milne.
“Spend all the evenings you can with the people who raised you / ’Cause all the times they will change, it’ll all come around / I don’t know / Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon / Maybe I’m just stoned at the nail salon again,” Lorde sings wistfully over delicate guitars.
“This song is sort of a rumination on getting older, settling into domesticity, and questioning if you’ve made the right decisions,” the singer said in a press statement. “I think lots of people start asking those questions of themselves around my age, and it was super comforting to me writing them down, hoping they’d resonate with others too.”
“Stoned at the Nail Salon” follows “Solar Power,” the first single from and the title track to her upcoming third LP. “The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde said of the LP. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”
Solar Power is out August 20. Listen to “Stoned at the Nail Salon” here:
