EXO’s Kai makes long-awaited solo debut with ‘KAI (开)’

It was accompanied by a video for lead single “Mmmh.”

Kai of EXO has dropped his solo debut EP, KAI (开).

The K-pop idol previewed the highly anticipated record last week with a seven-minute short film featuring songs from the EP. It opens with “Hello Stranger” before segueing into “Reason” and “Amnesia,” and closes out with “Ride or Die.” Each song starred Kai in a different setting, from a grand ballroom to an underground subway station.

KAI (开) was released alongside a video for lead single “Mmmh,” a sultry R&B-inspired bop on which the K-pop idol—best known for his dance skills—also flexes his vocal chops. The clip places Kai and his troupe of dancers in various settings within a futuristic cityscape, from barren highways and rooftops to industrial warehouses and more.

Kai is the latest EXO member to embark on a solo endeavor. Earlier this year, Suho released his debut EP Self-Portrait, Lay teamed up with Steve Aoki and Will.i.am for “Love You More” and Chanyeol collaborated with Lee Hi and rapper Changmo for “Yours.” The group’s last album, Obsession, arrived in November 2019.
