Ellie Goulding has released “Flux,” a bittersweet ballad that explores the complexities of residual love.
The emotional track, which Goulding co-wrote with Joe Kearns and Jim Eliot, features sustained piano chords, dramatic strings and soaring vocals from Goulding. “And I’m still in love with the idea of loving you / It’s a state of flux, but it’s not enough,” she sings.
“‘Flux’ is a song that I wrote entirely from the heart that seemed to capture how I felt about not ever being able to let go of a past love, even though it was over for a reason,” Goulding said in a statement. “I feel like I am in a constant state of change and upheaval, and it makes me unable to root myself and get over things easily.”
“Flux” is the second cut from Goulding’s upcoming LP, having previously released the Billboard Hot 100 hit “Close to Me” with Diplo and Swae Lee. She is also featured on a recent Clean Bandit single, “Mama.”
