Dua Lipa has kicked off a new era with her new, disco-influenced single “Don’t Start Now.”
The funky dance pop track dropped alongside a neon-lit video which follows the singer on a wild night out. In the clip, Lipa starts her night with a performance at a local pub before she heads to a club with her posse, where they dance underneath a disco ball.
“Don’t show up, don’t come out / Don’t start caring about me now / Walk away, you know how / Don’t start caring about me now,” the British-Albanian star sings on the catchy chorus over a thumping bassline.
“I chose to put this song out first so I could close one chapter of my life and start another,” Lipa explained in a press statement. “In a new era with a new sound! It’s about moving on and not allowing anyone to get in the way of that. It also felt like a natural first song choice as I made it with the brilliant same crew I made ‘New Rules’ with.”
“Don’t Start Now” is Lipa’s second release of the year, following “Swan Song” for the soundtrack of Alita: Battle Angel. Earlier this year, the singer also won Best New Artist at the 61st Grammy Awards.
