Demi Lovato returns with emotional new single, “Anyone”

She debuted the track at the 2020 Grammys.

Demi Lovato has officially returned with the vulnerable new song, “Anyone,” which she debuted at the 2020 Grammys.

Lovato’s emotional performance of the song was an undeniable highlight of the 62nd Grammy Awards, which took place last Sunday.

“I tried to talk to my piano / I tried to talk to my guitar / Talk to my imagination/ Confided into alcohol / I tried and tried and tried some more / Told secrets ’til my voice was sore / Tired of empty conversation / ’Cause no one hears me anymore,” she sang, wearing a white gown and standing next to a pianist.

The song, which is now available to stream, marks Lovato’s first solo release in 18 months. “Anyone” was written just days before she was hospitalized for a near-fatal drug overdose in 2018.

“I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself,” she told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe. “I almost listen back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help … And you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, how did nobody listen to this song and think, ‘Let’s help this girl?’”
