Christina Aguilera links up with Ty Dolla $ign, 2 Chainz on “Accelerate”

She’s abdicating from her pop throne in favor of on-trend hip hop and R&B.

No one could say they didn’t see this coming. Christina Aguilera, the siren who shed her bubblegum image for the sexed-up kitten of “Dirrty,” is back with another borderline NSFW track, “Accelerate.”

The single, which features Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz, borrows heavily from today’s trendiest hip hop sounds. Trap beats, triplet flows and the obligatory ‘skrrt skrrt’s fill the song, taking Xtina further away from the pop mold. It’s strange and weird and fresh at all once—and that’s not even mentioning the lyrics, which we’ll leave you to figure out for youself.

And the visual for “Accelerate” is just as suggestive. Xtina is glittered up, bathed in a gloopy substance, and in various stages of undress. It’s the stuff of (wet) dreams for ’90s kids, but you kinda don’t wanna be caught watching it at work.

“Accelerate” was produced by Mike Dean, Che Pope and the one-and-only Kanye West. It comes off Liberation, Aguilera’s sixth studio album, which drops on June 15.
