Charli XCX, Troye Sivan release nostalgia bop “1999”

Now that’s what you call a throwback.

Charli XCX and Troye Sivan want to take us all the way back to the turn of the millennium with their brand-new collab, “1999.”

The track teems with ’90s nostalgia, as the hook makes clear: “I just wanna go back / Back to 1999.” Charli and Sivan take turns reminiscing in the verses, referencing everything from Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time,” to MTV and Jonathan Taylor Thomas (trust us—if you’re a ’90s kid, you’ll know).

The production sounds like it could’ve been lifted from the year it’s named after, too: The song’s full of retro house piano, hand claps and slinky dance beats. If this doesn’t get you partying like it’s 1999, nothing will.
