Charli XCX, Troye Sivan parody the ’90s in “1999” video

Only ’90s kids will remember.

Charli XCX and Troye Sivan’s recent collab “1999” packs a ton of ’90s references (“CD, old Mercedes / Drive ’round listening to Shady like, oh”), so it’s no surprise that they decided to pay homage to the era’s most iconic moments in the accompanying visual.

From the birth of the iMac to James Cameron’s Titanic to boybands, the Ryan Staake- and Charli XCX-directed video will be an instant favorite for pop culture junkies. In it, Charli dresses up as every member of the Spice Girls, rocks Skechers (what are NMDs anyway?) and stars in a Baby-G advert.

Sivan isn’t left out on the cosplay either, as he channels his inner Slim Shady and Justin Timberlake. At one point, the pair even transform into Sims versions of themselves.
