Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Let’s Be Friends” is a take on dating culture

Just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Carly Rae Jepsen has returned with a cheeky new song titled “Let’s Be Friends.”

On the catchy track, the singer chronicles the pitfalls of dating in the 21st century. “Let’s be friends then never speak again / It’s cool, we can just pretend / We’re friends and never speak again / See you soon, hope we can remain good friends,” she sings on the anti-Valentine’s Day track.

“‘Let’s Be Friends’ is about the little lie we all share to soften the blow of a break-up,” Jepsen said in a press statement. “This Valentine’s Day I’d prefer to just rip off the band-aid. See you never!”

“Let’s Be Friends” is Jepsen’s first new release since her fourth studio album, Dedicated, which features the songs “Too Much” and “Party for One.” Last year, she teamed up with Gryffin on “OMG.”
