Three years after dropping her last album, Carly Rae Jepsen on Sunday shared an Instagram Story of her in the studio, presumably working on a record. The 13-second clip was soundtracked by a bopping new track that bears all of the pop star’s hallmarks: infectious, hummable and saccharine.
The track, which based on the lyrics appears to be called “This Love isn’t Crazy,” is a modern disco/pop hybrid in the mold of Robyn and La Roux. Over handclaps and oscillating synths, the “Call Me Maybe” hitmaker belts her lungs out—and sent fans into a frenzy.
The disco direction is something Jepsen has been hinting at for years now. In 2016, she said in an interview, “I can’t explain what we’re doing right now, but we’re very much into disco-y things.” And to lend even more credence to that claim, she wrote on the Gram earlier this year, “When you move it’s like a disco darling—all my dreams come true.”
Instagram Stories expire, of course, but fans have archived this particular one for the benefit of all of us. Check out the snippet here:
