Björk embraces floral fluidity in “Tabula Rasa” MV

From 2017’s ‘Utopia.’

Björk’s 2017 release Utopia is the album that keeps on giving: The Icelandic artist recently released a beautifully alien video for the track “Tabula Rasa.”

The Tobias Gremmler-directed video uses CGI to portray Björk as an ever-mutating amalgam of alien and nature. Her body at times appears as if it could be some unknown creature from the ocean depths conjured by Jules Verne, and at other points its volatility builds into a humanoid structure resplendent with limbs and pulsating petals. It’s beautifully weird, even by Björk’s standards.

“When creating the video, I was deeply inspired by the music and lyrics of ‘Tabula Rasa,’” Gremmler said in the video’s YouTube description. “The visual transformation of Björk into faun-like flowers and mountainous landscapes embodies the utopian concept of a harmonious coexistence between nature and human based on empathy.”
