Billie Eilish opens up about fame on “NDA”

The dark cut is her fifth single from ‘Happier Than Ever.’

Billie Eilish is back with another single, “NDA.”

Over dark, pulsating production, Eilish sings about her struggles with fame. In her signature hush, she narrates her secrets and yearns for a new profession distinct from her current lifestyle. “I bought a secret house when I was 17 / Haven’t had a party since I got the keys / Had a pretty boy over, but he couldn’t stay / On his way out I made him sign an NDA,” she whispers.

Released on June 9, the track was accompanied with a music video that Eilish directed. Shot in one take, the visual features the singer walking down a dark road, as stunt drivers zip by her, their headlights racing down the path. According to a press release, the video used no special effects, and also did not feature any stunt doubles.

The track is the fifth single from Eilish’s upcoming sophomore album, Happier Than Ever, which will be released on July 30. The record is Eilish’s follow-up to her 2019 debut, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?.

“NDA” follows May’s “Your Power,” as well as last month’s “Lost Cause.” Eilish performed the former single with her brother and close collaborator Finneas on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Last year, she also put out two singles, “My Future” and “Therefore I Am,” both of which will also appear on the album.

Earlier this year in March, the singer won Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards for her song “Everything I Wanted,” which she performed at the ceremony with Finneas.
