Aurora wants you to celebrate her “Queendom”

Delicate, quirky and life-affirming, the new track from the Norwegian pop pixie is expected to be the lead single from her forthcoming sophomore record.

Two years after dropping All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend, Aurora Aksnes yesterday returned with a new single, “Queendom.”

The track is an empowering tune about “celebrating the women and the children and animals and the men also,” the Norwegian singer-songwriter said. And with the refrain, “My queendom come,” ringing through the upbeat folktronica production, you know it’s gonna be an uplifting tune.

“I think it represents a really important message,” Aurora said in an interview. “My new album has a wider perspective than I had on my first one. The world has a lot of good and bad in it, but as I say in the first verses of ‘Queendom,’ ‘The underdogs are my lions / The silent ones are choir / The women will be my soldiers / The weight of life on their shoulders.’

“But it’s also for men, the planets and everything. It’s a very important start of my new chapter.”
