Aly & AJ search for redemption in their new video for “Church.”
The Alex Ross Perry-directed clip draws inspiration from neo-noir films, with its voyeuristic shots and vibrant color palette, and was shot on 16mm film at the gorgeous Samuel-Novarro House. In the video, the Michalka sisters dance around while wearing everything from grey pantsuits to nothing at all.
“[The Samuel-Novarro House] felt like a place apart from the city where years could pass by unnoticed. It also felt like a place designed for those on the outside to watch those on the inside,” the sisters told the FADER. “[The video] is how that feeling of struggling for and seeking redemption within a dominating framework looks to us,” they added.
“Church” is the lead single from the duo’s upcoming EP, Sanctuary, due out May 10. The project is a follow-up to their 2017 release, Ten Years, which marked their return from a decade-long hiatus from music.
