Pop trio AJR—aka brothers Adam, Jack and Ryan Met—have shared an emotional animated music video to accompany their recently released single “My Play.”
The illustrated clip, directed by Jason Merrin, depicts a child struggling to deal with his parents’ divorce. It follows his wild imagination in which he’s whisked away from reality to play with dinosaurs and sail stormy seas. He even channels Godzilla and terrorizes the streets before he’s eventually snapped back into the real world.
“I just really, really, really, really wanna show you my play / And I don’t wanna do it for Dad at Dad’s new place / I worked really, really, really, really hard, lemme show you my play / And I don’t wanna do it twice, ’cause it’s not the same,” the brothers sing on the melancholic chorus.
“My Play,” alongside preceding singles “Bummerland” and “Bang!,” are all set to appear on AJR’s upcoming album, OK Orchestra. In a statement, the group described their forthcoming record as the most “sonically experimental and emotionally raw album we’ve ever made.” “In the most uncertain year of our lives, making OK ORCHESTRA was the one certain thing we had to hold on to,” they said.
OK Orchestra is expected to arrive on March 26. Watch the video for “My Play” here:
