5 Seconds of Summer go for gold in “Valentine” video

From their album ‘Youngblood,’ released earlier this year.

5 Seconds of Summer have released a golden, glittery video for “Valentine” off their third album, Youngblood, which was released earlier in June.

Co-directed by 5SOS member Ashton Irwin and photographer Andy DeLuca, the video finds the band singing to the camera, occasionally daubed with gold paint and sparkly eyeshadow. All this is intercut with shots of their instruments and imagery that reflects the song’s lyrics—think “sweet cherry pie.”

“Collaboration has always been one of the key most important things about 5 Seconds of Summer since day one, and co-directing the video with Andy was an incredible and very fluid experience,” Irwin commented to Rolling Stone. He also noted that they particularly wanted to capture “the androgyny and the feminine element of the way Luke performs, as well as the dark romance of the song.”
