Metalcore veterans Zao have released a new ripper, “Hide From the Light.”
The Virginia band have been on a roll after ending their unofficial hiatus in 2015, putting out a release every year since. 2018 will be no exception: “Hide From the Light” is taken from a seven-inch split with Zao’s current tourmates, Yashira, out September 21 via Mind Over Matter Records.
According to Metal Injection, which premiered the track, “Hide From the Light” tackles society’s troubling reliance on technology and social media. The titular “light” refers to “the light beaming out of our handheld electrical devices and that light’s ability to manipulate our thoughts and actions personally, as well as society as a whole, via digital social platforms,” says vocalist Dan Weyandt.
The song was recorded during the sessions for Zao’s next full-length album, which is currently slated to drop next year. In the meantime, listen to “Hide From the Light” below:
