Band break-ups are rough, but Canadian metal band Witchrot have managed to mine internet fame and glory from their dissolution.
Band member Peter Turik took to Facebook earlier this week to announce Witchrot’s demise and explain the gnarly circumstances: “Due to the unfortunate reality of our guitarist fucking my girlfriend of almost seven years, Witchrot will be taking an extended hiatus.”
“I, however, will continue the band in another space and time, being ripe with hate the music is slowly flowing and without a doubt will become the most devastating, torturous music I have ever created,” he promised, affirming his commitment to metal and the Witchrot ethos.
But it was the kicker that really made the announcement: “Also our drummer died…”
For the uninitiated—the dying drummer is a reference to Spinal Tap. As Newsweek points out, Witchrot’s drummer seems alive and well.
Turik has been milking Witchrot’s newfound viral fame, posting links to their material and urging, “Focus on the music, you fucks!”
