Watch Zao’s video for new single “Ship of Theseus”

You don’t have to have watched ‘Wandavision’ to appreciate the new track.

Zao have released a video for “Ship of Theseus,” a hard-hitting new single from their upcoming album The Crimson Corridor.

The tightly coiled new track is named for a thought experiment that was recently referenced in the hit Marvel Cinematic Universe series Wandavision. The band explained it to Metal Injection: “If you are not aware, or are not caught up on Wandavision, the Ship of Theseus paradox is this: If Theseus had a ship, and over time individual parts are slowly replaced until, eventually, no original parts remain? Is it still the same ship? Also if you make a NEW ship out of the discarded parts? Which is the real Ship Of Theseus? Or is it neither? Zao is nothing if not self aware.”

“Ship of Theseus,” vocalist Dan Weyandt explained, also serves as “an enigmatic tribute to the long surreal history of Zao and its shared parallels with the Ship of Theseus paradox. It also explores the idea that the band is somehow an entity in and of itself beyond its members past and present.”

The Crimson Corridor is Zao’s 12th album and the follow-up to their 2016 full-length album The Well-Intentioned Virus. The new record is out April 9. Ponder the paradox as you watch the clip for “Ship of Theseus” here:
