Power Trip and Obituary have joined forces on a performance of “Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe)” in honor of the late Riley Gale.
The performance took place during Obituary’s livestream on March 27, which featured songs from across the death metal veterans’ catalog. They were also joined by three members from Power Trip, who gave what is likely their first public performance since the death of frontman Riley Gale in August.
Before Power Trip’s Blake Ibanez, Nick Stewart and Chris Whetzel began shredding on their Grammy-nominated song, Obituary drummer Donald Tardy held up a photo of Gale to the camera and said, “Rest in peace, brother.”
Power Trip have been inactive since Gale’s unexpected passing at 34, but earlier this month, told the Los Angeles Times that they still wanted to play music together. “We do want to continue to play music together; we just are not sure what that looks like at this time,” Ibanez said.
