Mr Bungle have released new single “Eracist” with a chaotic music video in tow.
The nightmarish clip, directed by Derrick Scocchera, pairs antiquated stock footage from yesteryear with unnerving visions of a drug-addled, dystopian future. The single itself is a roaring punk rock track that later goes full steam ahead into thrashy territory.
“Eracist” is the second preview of Mr Bungle’s upcoming release The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo—a re-recorded version of their 1986 debut demo that will be their first studio album in 21 years upon its release next month. Ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian join the founding trio of Mike Patton, Trevor Dunn and Trey Spruance on the record.
“Recording this record felt like we were finally utilizing our PhDs in thrash metal,” Dunn said in a statement of Lombardo and Ian’s involvement. “All we had to do was go back to our original professors for some additional guidance and talk them into joining us. Turns out we were A+ students. We even went for extra credit by revisiting some tunes that we’d given up on back in the day. It was less like a trip of nostalgia and more like the refining of an original, worthy document. We were haunted for 35 years by the fact that this music wasn’t given its due respect. Now we can die.”
The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo will be released on October 30 via Ipecac Recordings. Watch the video for “Eracist” here:
