Watch Kenyan grindcore duo Duma’s video for “Lionsblood”

From their self-titled debut album out next month.

Ugandan electronic label Nyege Nyege Tapes have announced the self-titled debut album by Duma, a doom/grindcore duo hailing from Nairobi, Kenya.

Duma—Sam Karugu and Martin Khanja—have also dropped a video for the song “Lionsblood,” in which the duo and their friends chug bottles of bright red liquid and play in a pool whose water slowly turns crimson. It’s an unsettling video that matches the heart-stopping electronic polyrhythms and distorted screams of the track.

Former members of the Kenyan death metal bands Lust of a Dying Breed and Seeds of Datura, Karugu and Khanja (who also goes by Lord Spike Heart) formed Duma in 2019. They recorded their debut album over three months last year at Nyege Nyege’s studio in the Ugandan capital of Kampala, and also performed at the label’s 2019 festival alongside acts from Tanzania, Ethiopia, Nigeria, China, New York, Japan and more.

Duma is due out on August 7. Watch the video for “Lionsblood” below:
