Blood From the Soul—the resurrected supergroup comprising members of Napalm Death, Converge, Megadeth and Nasum—have released the new song “Calcified Youth.”
Blood From the Soul is led by Napalm Death’s Shane Embury, who formed the group with Lou Koller of Sick of it All in 1993, releasing the album To Spite the Gland that Breeds (with programmed drums) that same year.
Now, Embury has revived the group, with Converge frontman Jacob Bannon taking over on vocals. Also involved are Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and Nasum’s Jesper Liveröd. Together, they’ve recorded the album DSM-5, which will include “Calcified Youth” and previous single “Debris of Dreams.”
Bannon—who is also in the bands Wear Your Wounds and Umbra Vitae—recently spoke about how the original Blood From the Soul project was “a dream come true for teenage me,” and explained that Embury approached him to get involved, which “sounded like a really fun challenge.”
“This to me was an interesting challenge where I could write from a different perspective, and still put in my own life experiences and attach a variety of different metaphors that relate to today and contemporary society,” Bannon told Forbes.
DSM-5 is out November 13 on Bannon’s independent label, Deathwish Inc. Listen to “Calcified Youth” here:
