Rammstein have revealed they’ve been spending the lockdown of the coronavirus pandemic working on new music.
The German band released their last album in 2019. That record—which has no official title, but is often referred to as a self-titled album—was their first full-length release in ten years. It featured singles like “Deutschland,” “Radio” and “Ausländer.”
Now it appears that fans may not have to wait that long for a new release from Rammstein. In a new interview on the German podcast BossHoss, drummer Christoph Schneider revealed that the band have been using the time freed up by the pandemic and concert cancellations to work on new songs.
“Last week, we were supposed to play our first 2020 concert and then we said, ‘Let’s meet and think about what we could do this year,’” he said, according to a translation by the Facebook page Rammstein Belgium (via Kerrang!).
Schneider added, “We still have so many ideas lying around, so many unfinished songs. We met and we’re working on new songs. We want to work on songs, but whether it’s going to be a new record, nobody knows.”
Rammstein were due to tour arenas in Europe and North America this summer, but have since postponed those dates. The Europe shows have been rescheduled to 2021. No new dates have been announced for the North America concerts yet.
