Prophets of Rage have dropped their first release of the year, “Hearts Afire.” And whatever you feel about rap rock, one thing’s for sure: It sounds like nothing else out there.
Assembled with former members of Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill, the supergroup have produced a track that embodies the melting of genres that they represent. Backed by the constant growl of distortion, “Hearts Afire” is surely metal at heart, but techno and hip hop around the edges.
The lyrics furiously confront contemporary society: “Isolation, separation, got your education / Grabbed this gun now I face it / And my mind is racing,” B-Real and Chuck D spit.
The politically charged track marks the group’s first new song since their self-titled debut album in 2017. The band are currently about to kick off a North American tour alongside Avenged Sevenfold.
