Norwegian black metal pioneers Mayhem have released “Worthless Abominations Destroyed,” the first single from their forthcoming record, Daemon.

The new song, with its unrelenting blast beats and guttural vocals, was created to evoke the feeling of “all is lost and hopeless,” guitarist Teloch said in a press statement.

Mayhem—whose bloody backstory was the subject of the recent controversial Jonas Åkerlund film, Lords of Chaos—will release Daemon next month. The ten-track reocrd will be their sixth studio album and the follow-up to 2014’s Esoteric Warfare.

“I think this album will be most pleasing for old and new fans,” Teloch said. “As most of our devoted fans know, Mayhem has never released two albums that sound the same. That’s the case this time around as well… We simplified stuff, but at the same time tried out some new stuff to keep it interesting for ourselves and also for our fans that dig that we are doing something new on each album.”

Daemon is out October 25 via Century Media. Hear “Worthless Abominations Destroyed” below:
