Jinjer have released a video of their performance of “Retrospection” recorded in Melbourne earlier this year—just before the coronavirus pandemic struck.
The Ukranian metalcore band had embarked on their debut tour Down Under in March as part of their Macro World Tour. A week after they recorded their sold-out gig at Melbourne venue Max Watt’s House of Music, the pandemic brought Jinjer’s travels to an abrupt halt.
In September, Jinjer announced the release of the 17-track live album, Alive in Melbourne. “It’s still pretty incredible that four Ukrainians travelled 14,770 km just to sing in their native language… to the welcoming ears, eyes and open arms of Melbourne,” bassist Eugene Abdukhanov said in a statement.
He added, “This night will forever be burned in our hearts and the beat of ‘Retrospection’ fit that night like never before. Shows like this should happen each time we perform and we cannot wait to get back on tour to make sure that happens every night.”
Jinjer released “Retrospection” last year as part of their Macro album, which also featured the tracks “Pit of Consciousness” and “On the Top.” Alive in Melbourne will be released November 20. While you wait, watch Jinjer’s powerful performance of “Retrospection” here:
