Emma Ruth Rundle and members of Mastodon, YOB and Old Man Gloom have teamed up to deliver an epic, socially distanced cover of Kate Bush’s classic “Running Up That Hill.”
The cover is the eighth edition of the Bedroom Covers series by heavy metal YouTube talk show Two Minutes to Late Night. The show’s co-creator Jordan Olds, better known as its host Gwarsenio Hall, enlisted Rundle, YOB bassist Aaron Rieseberg, Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher and Old Man Gloom drummer Santos Montano for the Bush cover.
The cover was released as scheduled on June 1 “even though our country is in turmoil,” the artists acknowledged in a statement, “because we wanted to honor the hard work of our guest musicians and to give our fans a respite from the horrors of the fascist police state.”
“In lieu of donating to our Patreon, we ask you to consider making a donation to the protestor bail funds for your local city,” they added. “Please take a moment to acknowledge our many friends who cannot enjoy any kind of video right now. Black Lives Matter. Rest in power George Floyd and the many other victims of systemic oppression.”
Prior to “Keep Running Up That Hill,” the Bedroom Covers series has included takes on songs by Guns ’N’ Roses, Ozzy Osbourne and AC/DC. Musicians who’ve participated so far include members of Dillinger Escape Plan, High on Fire, Cave in, War on Women and Baroness.
