Deftones drop heavy new ‘Ohms’ single, “Genesis”

Their new album is out next week.

Just one week out from the release of their ninth studio album Ohms, Deftones have dropped new single “Genesis” along with its music video.

Following “Ohms,” “Genesis” is the second single from the new Deftones album. The new track lumbers forward on fuzzy grunge riffs and a powerful vocal performance from frontman Chino Moreno, who vacillates between ominous whispers and his inimitable yowl. Its accompanying music video layers distorted black-and-white footage of the band playing the song.

“That yin and ying [sic] of what we’ve always done of making very brutal music while having these lush overtones and undertones within it is what makes us who we are,” Moreno recently told NME. “We’ve never just been a metal band, we’ve never just been an alternative band, we’ve always just been us. We feel comfortable in never having to choose and let the songs unfold in an organic way.”

Ohms follows on from the band’s 2016 chart-topping LP Gore. It also marks the band’s first time back in the studio with Terry Date, who last produced their 2003 LP Deftones.

Ohms will be released next Friday, September 25. Listen to “Genesis” now:
