Deadland Ritual unveil first single, “Down in Flames”

The talent-packed quartet includes Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler.

Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler’s new band, Deadland Ritual, have released a new song, “Down in Flames.”

The blues-infused rock tune is the first single from the newly formed supergroup, which besides Butler features a stellar cast: drummer Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses), guitarist Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), and vocalist Franky Perez (Scars on Broadway).

“Down in Flames” opens with a steady groove helmed by Sorum, before bursting into life with melodic riffs supplied by both Butler and Stevens. Perez’s gritty vocals course through the track, occasionally rising to aggressive howls.

Though Butler was initially uncertain about the project, he had a change of heart after sifting through some early tracks. “I really liked the music I was hearing. It’s not your typical hard rock or metal stuff,” he said in a statement.

Deadland Ritual have also announced two live shows taking place next June: a performance at Download Festival in Donnington, England, and an outing at Hellfest Festival in Clisson, France.
