German metal duo Lindemann—aka Till Lindemann of Rammstein and Hypocrisy’s Peter Tägtgren—have dropped a bizarre video for their new song, “Ich weiß es nicht.”
The black-and-white clip features a hypnotizing series of human faces metamorphosing into one another, alongside images of butterflies and spiders. The visual also includes scenes of Till’s face superimposed over classic film scenes, such as Fritz Lang’s 1927 film Metropolis and the 1932 horror film Freaks.
“This video has been generated through GANs. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) are AI architectures capable of generating imagery,” the video’s YouTube caption explains. “By analyzing thousands of pictures GANs learn image features in a similar way to humans, generalizing visual patterns into conceptual understanding.”
“Ich weiß es nicht” will appear on Lindemann’s forthcoming sophomore album, F & M, alongside previously released tracks “Steh Auf” and “Mathematik.” The record is due out on November 22 via Universal Music.
