Born of Osiris just dropped an album, The Simulation, and are planning one more release this year. But guitarist Lee McKinney has still managed to find time to work on an instrumental solo project. He’s just released the single “A Neverending Explosion” to tease his debut solo album, Infinite Mind, out next month.
Opening with trademark McKinney riffery, the djenty “A Neverending Explosion” quickly transcends into ambient prog territory, before returning to the bulldozing opening riff.
In an interview with Consequence of Sound, McKinney revealed that he played every instrument on the album, except the saxophone. “It’s got quiet moments, and it’s got heavy moments. I wouldn’t call it a metal record. I’ve been wanting to do this for years, and I’m pumped up about it,” he said.
Infinite Mind is due out on March 29 via Sumerian Records. Listen to “A Neverending Explosion” here:
