Bodom After Midnight release “Paint the Sky with Blood”

Plus a performance video filmed before Alexi Laiho’s death.

Bodom After Midnight—the band co-founded last year by the late Alexi Laiho—have shared their debut single “Paint the Sky with Blood” from their forthcoming EP of the same name.

The remaining members of the Finnish band born from the ashes of Children of Bodom are releasing their debut EP in honor of their late vocalist Alexi Laiho. The vocalist and guitarist died in December last year from health complications that arose in part from alcohol-induced degeneration of the liver, according to Laiho’s partner Kimberly Goss.

“Paint the Sky with Blood” is an anthem: Laiho’s fervent howls ride a massive wall of guitars, while the rhythm section maintains a frantic groove. The track arrived with a performance music video filmed prior to the singer’s death.

“Like ourselves, Alexi was beyond stoked about these songs and anxious to get these out, so we are happy that we can fulfill his wish,” Bodom After Midnight said in a statement. “Needless to say, we are honored and proud to be a part of his very last creative work and to unleash it the way he wanted it. It’s time to let the beast out of the cage one more time as a celebration of Alexi’s music, legacy and the man himself.”

Paint the Sky with Blood will contain one other original track—“Payback’s a Bitch”—alongside a cover of Dissection’s “Where Dead Angels Lie.”

Paint the Sky with Blood will be released on April 23 via Napalm Records. Listen to the title track:
