British metalcore outfit Architects have released a new single “Animals,” the first preview of their upcoming ninth studio album For Those That Wish to Exist.
“Animals” explodes to life with massive riffs and pounding drums before stripping it all away for the verses—a masterclass in dynamic songwriting. Architects paired “Animals” with a music video directed by drummer Dan Searle that blends stark and smoky visuals with footage of the band performing the epic single.
Architect’s previous album, 2018’s Holy Hell, captured the band coming to terms with the death of founding guitarist—and Dan’s twin brother—Tom Searle. The musician passed away after living with melanoma for three years and was unable to record all of his parts for the band’s eighth studio LP. Now, Architects look outward to the future of the world on For Those That Wish to Exist.
“This album was me looking at our inability to change to a way of life that would sustain the human race and save the planet,” Searle said in a statement. “I wanted to look in the mirror and ask ourselves the question of what are we going to do, as opposed to trying to point the finger at politicians. Change has to start on a personal level. The world has developed a culture of wanting someone else to deal with it, when we need to take our own responsibility. It has to start there.”
For Those That Wish to Exist will arrive on February 26. Watch the video for “Animals” here:
