BTS delivered a slick performance of their new single, “Butter,” at the Billboard Music Awards, held on May 24.
The performance was their first live rendition of the song, which was released last Friday, and marked BTS’ fourth performance on the BBMA stage. Taking the stage in slick black suits, the Bangtan Boys stunned with their impeccably sharp choreography. The group moved from an empty stage to a Billboard-decorated red carpet, as they danced while harmonizing on the song.
“Smooth like butter / Like a criminal undercover / Gon’ pop like trouble,” Jungkook opened “Butter,” as V, Jimin, Jin and J-Hope all traded verses in the song. Meanwhile, Suga and RM rapped on the song’s third verse, before BTS closed with a final group chorus. “We gon’ make you rock and you say / We gon’ make you bounce and you say / Hotter? Sweeter! Cooler? Butter!” they cheered.
“Butter”’s release has been historic in proportion. The song broke records as the biggest Spotify debut in history, with over 20.9 million global streams on its first day. On the other hand, the song’s music video racked up 113 million views on YouTube within 24 hours of its premiere on the platform.
Thanks to their passionate fanbase—dubbed ARMY—BTS also took home their fifth consecutive Top Social Artist award, which they have won since 2017.
