Watch Yussef Dayes’ enthralling video for ‘Duality’

Capturing two songs, “For the Ladies” and “Othello.”

British drummer and producer Yussef Dayes—formerly one half of Yussef Kamaal—has dropped a video for two songs, “For the Ladies” and “Othello,” which Dayes has jointly released under the title Duality.

The video, which was directed by Florian Joahn, is a sophisticated melange of stylized, intimate scenes featuring a female dancer and performance footage with Dayes, keyboardist/synth player Charlie Stacey and bassist Rocco Palladino.

Dayes formed Yussef Kamaal with Kamaal Williams in 2016. That same year, they released the acclaimed album Black Focus. The duo confirmed their split in 2018. Williams has been keeping busy, most recently putting out a mix for DJ-Kicks and releasing new material such as “New Heights (Visions of Aisha Malik)” and “Snitches Brew.”

Dayes, on the other hand, spent the year backing the likes of Kamasi Washington and John Mayer, and is slated to release his first solo project this month. He also has a joint album with singer-songwriter Tom Misch due out early next year.
