For the past two Octobers, Robert Glasper has held a month-long residency at the Blue Note in New York City. Though this year’s “Robtober” is off due to the pandemic, the musician has shared a live video of a performance with Esperanza Spalding and Yasiin Bey from last year’s edition to console fans.
Together, Spalding, Bey, Glasper and drummer Justin Tyson deliver a haunting rendition of Spalding’s “Lest We Forget” (first heard on the deluxe edition of her 12 Little Spells album).
Other guests who have participated in Robtobers include Talib Kweli, Q-Tip, Black Thought and Anderson .Paak. In past residencies Glasper has led tributes to Stevie Wonder, Roy Hargrove and J Dilla.
In a Billboard interview last November, Glasper said that he was “surely going to want to do a third” residency at the Blue Note. “Trying to figure it all out in terms of all the different artists involved and their schedules plus budgets, flights and those kinds of things is a conversation that we literally start having in June or July,” he said.
