Watch Erykah Badu kill it on NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk’

The queen gives a jazzy performance that’s reminiscent of a certain Billie Holiday.

NPR is on a roll. A week after Tower of Power graced its Tiny Desk show, Erykah Badu strutted in to deliver another powerhouse performance.

With a seven-piece band backing her, Badu took on “Rimshot,” off her 1997 debut Baduizm, and “Green Eyes” from 2010’s Mama’s Gun. It was a vibing yet delicate set that bridged bebop and neo-soul, with the latter track showing off the band’s considerable range.

A prancing duet between Erykah and trumpet player Keyon Harrold opens the performance of “Green Eyes,” recalling the partnership between Billie Holiday and Lester Young at their legendary CBS set in 1957. And then the band transition into the smoothest soul your ears will be privy to this week.

Bliss out to the set here:
