Nigerian drummer Tony Allen has released “We’ve Landed,” featuring the late, great South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela.

“The song is dedicated to today’s youth,” Allen said in a statement. “The lyric addresses people at 17, 18, 19 years old, who are slowly becoming more mature, finding out who they are and realizing that it’s their generation’s turn to wake up!”

“We’ve Landed” is a preview of the two musicians’ upcoming album, Rejoice. Masekela passed away in 2018 after battling prostate cancer, making Rejoice his first posthumous release.

Allen and Masekela had reportedly been planning to record together for decades, but only got the chance in 2010 when their tours landed them in the United Kingdom at the same time. Producer Nick Gold captured the Rejoice sessions, which lay incomplete until Allen received clearance from Masekela’s estate to finish the recordings in summer 2019.

Rejoice will be released March 20 via World Circuit Records. Allen will perform a short run of shows across the United Kingdom and Europe in 2020 to celebrate the LP’s release after starting the project a decade ago.
