Tom Misch, Yussef Dayes tap Freddie Gibbs for “Nightrider”

An irresistibly smooth collaboration.

Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes have unveiled yet another track from their joint album, What Kinda Music: “Nightrider,” featuring rapper Freddie Gibbs.

On this vocal-forward track, Misch tells a tale of a heist in his own mellow way. “Don’t listen to what they say, you can’t take it slow / And when the Nightrider comes around, you gotta pick up the dough,” he sings on the opening. Gibbs comes in for an all-too-brief verse, which he concludes by proclaiming himself “rapper of the year, fuck the nominees.”

“Nightrider” follows the release of “Kyiv” and “Lift Off”—both of which featured bassist Rocco Palladino—and the title track of What Kinda Music. The album is out in full this Friday, April 24.

The new track also received an illustrated video treatment, directed and animated by Jack Brown. In the clip, the trio cruise across a changing landscape, nodding in time to the tune as they go. Watch the video here:
