Tom Misch, Yussef Dayes collaborate on ‘What Kinda Music’

The London duo join forces on their Blue Note debut.

Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes have finally released their joint album, What Kinda Music.

The duo previewed the LP, which was released on Blue Note Records, with a number of advance tracks, including Rocco Palladino collaborations “Lift Off” and “Kyiv” as well as “Nightrider” featuring Freddie Gibbs.

Misch and Dayes—who are both from London—first met at the release party for Misch’s 2018 solo album, Geography, and agreed to collaborate. “From the moment we got in the studio, I felt we had a strong musical connection,” Misch told DJBooth.

“The beauty of it was there was no pressure on what sound we’re going for,” Dayes added. “We were just making ideas from stuff we’d been inspired by. It organically grew into an album.”

Prior to the release of What Kinda Music, Dayes had put out the two-track single Duality. Misch, on the other hand, collaborated with Michael Kiwanuka on the track “Money.”
