Last Friday, The Side Project released their sophomore album, Everything We Do. The saxophone quartet recruited a group of guest vocalists for the new record, upping the ante from their 2015 instrumental debut, #ThisIsPartySax.
Everything We Do features brass covers of Childish Gambino’s “Redbone,” Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One” and James Blake’s “Retrograde.” Sounding unlike any other versions you’ve heard before, these three cuts are interspersed among a strong list of originals and reimaginations of other timeless tracks.
Their earlier single “Everything I Do” stars a trio of vocalists—namely Akie Bermiss, Alita Moses and Scienze—who form half of the guests on the LP. The same trio also come together on original composition “Can’t Let Go,” while Cyrille Aimée, Priya Darshini and J Hoard all appear solo on other tracks.
Everything We Do was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter, where the band offered a range of rewards including Skype saxophone lessons, signature covers of fan favorites and a private house performance.
